Custom Frame Generator Profile Templates

A few weeks ago, editing the xml file and the database file of frame generator was discussed here. Now, we want to create our own profiles after successfully linking the Custom database in the xml file.

1. Create 3 new sketches and make sure that the sketch name of all the sketches follow the ones like that of

Sketches in Frame Generator

2. After creating the sketches, create a rectangle in AFG_Simplified sketch. Dimension the width and the height. Name the parameters as USR_B and USR_H respectively.

3. Project Geometry the center point.

4. Make sure that the rectangular profile is centered just like in the image below. Use the dimension tool and do not use the Vertical and Horizontal constraints in positioning it.

5. Then, window select the sketch. Press Ctrl+C to copy it.

6. Go to the AFG_Medium sketch. Press Ctrl + V to paste it.

7. Go to the AFG_Detailed sketch then create your custom profile there. Be sure to center the profile as illustrated in the thumbnail below. Then, make sure also that you have defined the dimensions USR_B and USR_H in the sketch.

8. Save this into your C:/Program Files/Autodesk/Inventor 11/Frame Generator/SHARED/ProfileSystems/Custom/Templates

9. After saving the profile template, close Autodesk Inventor 11.

10. Open MS Access and edit the Custom.mdb and save it.

11. Then, edit LocalizationXML.xml and save it0.

12. After doing all of these, Run Inventor then try your custom profiles using Frame Generator.

I feel it works well for simple profiles like rectangles, squares, rounds etc. I have tried to customize complicated extrusion profiles but failed to achieve to generate space frames.

I am not able to orient my custom frame about the placement line. My custom frame always centers itself with the placement line in the middle of the frame member. There are radio buttons in a 3×3 matrix that can be selected in order to place my frame along an edge, or corner for example but no matter which one I select, the frame member always comes out to be as though I had selected the middle radio button. As well, I can’t see a three dimensional “mock-up” of the frame member for placement before accepting the frame. I have to apply the frame and if it is in a wrong orientation, ie. needs to be rotated 90 degrees, I have to delete the frame member and start again, remembering to rotate the frame by 90 degrees before applying the new member.

Has anyone figured out HOW to display thread features on drawings? I want to show in my part-drawings that there is an actual thread, without having to write a note.
