We could easily rename files in Vault. In fact, Vault has its own Renaming Wizard wherein we would just add the files that we want to rename. Also, related files that will be affected by this operation will be repaired. However, we should remember this:
Vault would not rename files in the local workspace
Thus, if we’re going to rename a file in Vault, make sure that:
1. The files that will be affected by the file rename are all checked in the Vault.
And in order to avoid dependency problems when opening (an assembly for example) a file:
1. Make sure that your local workspace is empty.
2. Get entire folder for that particular project.

Have you ever tried copying from an AutoCAD 2008 environment to the Autodesk Inventor part environment? If so, did you get the same dimensions? Just this morning, a customer called me for assistance regarding this one. This is actually not a bug.
So what shall you do?
Before doing a copy paste from AutoCAD to Inventor, type in the AutoCAD command line:
units
Then, if the default units in your part environment is in mm, then specify the units as mm.

Before, we all have to select one edge at a time to create a flange in Autodesk Inventor. Now, we could create the flanges by selecting a loop. Of course, one benefit of this is that our sheet metal creation is faster. (more…)

Migrating from Autodesk Inventor 11 to Autodesk Inventor 2008 was quite a challenging one for me. I have to uninstall to uninstall ADMS 5, Vault 5 and Inventor 11 content center because they’re not compatible with Inventor 2008.
Suggested Deployment procedures
First, you should backup Vault.
Uninstall the following:
- Autodesk Inventor 11
- MDT 2007
- ADMS 5
- Vault 5
- IV 11 Content Center
Then, install the following:
- Autodesk Inventor 2008
- MDT 2008
- ADMS 2008
- Content Center
- Vault 2008
And if you still want to use the old content center, just restore the backup.
Make sure that you comply with the graphics and systems requirements. More information can be found here.

You’ll notice in the new Autodesk Inventor 2008 that the pin icon is not being shown anymore in the dialog box. The pin icon in the previous releases of Inventor is used to roll up the dialog box so that you do not have to move the dialog box somewhere in the screen to be able to work conveniently. In Inventor 2008, you’ll just have to right click in the top bar of the dialog box and select auto-hide. Click here to view the screenshot.

The announcement of Autodesk Inventor LT has been a surprise for me. You may download it for free to use for a limited time only from the Autodesk Labs website. You may have a preview of the functions of Inventor LT here. Basically, Autodesk Inventor LT is a stripped down version of Autodesk Inventor Suite. In Autodesk Inventor LT, one could create the following:
- 3D Part models
- Part Drawings
- Photorealistic Renderings
- Publish DWF files
- Native 3D multi-CAD Export and Import
- Native 3D multi-CAD translation (see Autodesk Labs website)
NOTE: This is available for download in the following countries: United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand. Too bad I cannot download and test it here in the Philippines.
